Learn about our Virtual IOP
Virtual Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)
What Is a Virtual IOP?
A virtual IOP is an online treatment option that provides therapy online to individuals in their homes. Our virtual IOP maintains the same treatment structure and philosophy as our in person IOP, but it enables client to receive our high-quality care from the convenience of their home. It is sometimes called Online IOP, Online Therapy, Teletherapy or Telehealth however, they all mean online treatment.
What Are the Benefits of a Virtual IOP?
Flexibility and Convenience
A Virtual IOP gives clients the flexibility to connect with a therapist from home to receive treatment for mental health or substance use disorders. Given that most of The Haven’s clients are juggling school and treatment, a virtual environment can reduce the time and stress involved in commuting to and from treatment and allows for clients to receive care from the comfort of their home environment.
Diversity of Participants
IOP treatment includes both individual and group sessions. With a virtual IOP we are able to include participants from a diversity of backgrounds, universities and geographic areas to enrich the interaction and dynamics of group therapy sessions. Our clients appreciate the ability to interact with students at other schools to learn from their different experiences and environments.
Access to All of Our Therapists
Our virtual program allows clients access to all of our therapists regardless of their location, ensuring we can match clients with the best possible clinician for their unique needs.
Measurable Results
At The Haven at College we work with you to co-create and achieve your goals. Our therapists use evidence-based assessment tools to measure your development through treatment to demonstrate progress towards your goals and identify potential areas for improvement during the IOP program.
How Does The Haven’s Virtual IOP Work?
At the outset of our program, each client engages with one of our clinicians to receive a full biopsychosocial
assessment to help determine the appropriate treatment goals and develop a treatment schedule designed to fit the client's schedule.
Once a client has successfully completed their treatment plan, they can step down to outpatient treatment at The Haven which is customized to include fewer individual and group sessions to help solidify client's progress and recovery.
Holistic Group Sessions
The Haven's group sessions utilize a mixture of: evidence-based practices (DBT, CBT, Motivational Interviewing, etc.); skills-based groups such as Healthy Relationships and Social Anxiety; and experiential activities that support innovative ways to promote mental health and include improve, creating writing, surf, and equestrian activities, among others.
Daily Engagement
Clients spend two to three hours per day, three to four days per week in a variety of interactive group and individual sessions.
Personalized Therapy
Each week, clients will have one individual session with their therapist to focus on their unique mental health conditions.
Peer Support
Clients engage in a milieu of their peers and foster peer relationships with other college students who are working on a variety of mental health and/or substance use issues.
Safe Environment
Group sizes are capped at ten clients to ensure a sense of emotional safety, group integrity and engagement.
Comprehensive Care
Psychiatry support and (if needed) medication management can be arranged to meet clients' needs.
